Job Summary
This position is for a Seoul-based Korean Language Specialist.
Key Qualifications
- 1. You need extensive experience with both technical and marketing translation.
- 2. As you might expect, the ideal candidate must possess excellent computer and CAT skills (Apple; WorldServer strongly preferred).
- 3. The ideal candidate must have a high degree of demonstrated linguistic expertise. If you have or had a similar role in the past, let us know.
- 4. You need considerable experience in linguistic asset management. You understand how to maintain TMs and TDs. You know how to manage and update style guides.
- 5. You need a very strong sense of humor. We laugh together. And we all have the ability to laugh at ourselves.
- 6. You’ll be working a lot in English. We need you to be comfortable with your own spoken and written English. We need you to be articulate in English both in-person and during phone calls.
- 7. We think that you’ll need a minimum 8 years of experience as a translator/reviewer/localization insider to succeed in this role.
- 8. You need to understand (or be willing to learn to understand) Apple. Previous experience working at Apple or with Apple is strongly preferred.
- 9. Business Skill: Rare in the localization world, you will need to have a solid, high-level understanding of how large companies operate. You’ll work with/build relationships with every single Apple business unit. You need to conceptually understand how all business units tie together to provide our customers the greatest customer experience in the world.
- 10. You must be comfortable in the role of “teacher” and “liaison”. You will teach our Korean clients both basic and advanced localization. You will teach the Cupertino-based team (including US-based English language authors) specific nuances of our Korean business requirements. You will teach our vendors the most important linguistic aspects of all content.
Description
Linguistic review, translation from English into Korean, and linguistic asset management are all daily requirements. The ideal candidate will obviously need strong linguistic and translation skills. To succeed in this job, you will also need to teach and learn from a wide variety of internal stakeholders, vendors, team members, and our external QA team. This is not a “sit at your desk and translate/review” job. This role is about listening to all internal stakeholders and customers to see what specific language best helps them. You will need to learn our stakeholders’ businesses. You will need to understand how our Korean vendors operate and how to best to motivate them toward the most appropriate level of linguistic quality by content type. You will need to teach clients how their requests must be balanced against current Apple terminology. You will remain eternally committed to giving Apple’s Korean customers the best possible experience. Sometimes you’ll have to do all of this under impossibly tight deadlines.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) MA in Translation/Interpretation or a related field is a plus
